Experience Halloween in Cavan

It’s coming close to that time of year again where we all dress up and go trick or treating! Midterm 2021 will be extra special as we didn’t get to celebrate at all in 2020 with restrictions. This year why not plan a trip with the entire family and experience Halloween in Cavan!

Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts and spirits. Modern day Halloween takes on the same theme but with a lot more fun involved! This Halloween there are lots of events happening in Cavan and you are invited. Cavan Adventure Centre Halloween Night Paddle

Experience a Moonlit Guided Paddle to Clough Oughter Castle with Cavan Adventure Centre. Hop into your own single or double kayak and get instruction from their staff before heading out on the water. Kayak by moonlight under the October Skies to discover the historic 13th century Anglo Norman Castle that lies serenely amid the lakes, hidden in a maze of islands and waterways. Cavan Adventure Centre Halloween camp events

Join Cavan Adventure Centre for a fun-filled Halloween camp on the 27th of October. Kayaking, archery, fireside stories and lots more are in store for kids of ages 8+. The perfect way to celebrate the midterm! On Saturday the 30th a scavenger hunt will be held for kids aged 5-8years old. Woodland orienteering will be held on the same day for kids 8 years plus. On Halloween itself, the 31st of October there will be free campside storytelling for all of the family from 2-4pm. Killinkere Visitor Farm

Take a trip to the farm this midterm. Killinkere visitor farm is sometimes referred to as a pet farm or an open farm- well its both of things and so much more. It is a real working farm in the traditional way, with small mixed farming including the animals that would have been farmed and used in the area for hundreds of years. Killinkere visitor  farm also keep about 20 other species of animals not normally found on a small farm such as LIamas, miniature horses, chin chulas, guinea pigs, deer, rare birds and fowl. The farm is open for visitors this midterm from Saturday the 23rd October until Sunday 7th November. Come dressed up in your Halloween best! The Wicked Witch Trail at the Marble Arch Caves

Based in the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, the Marble Arch Caves are a family favourite for a day out. This Halloween, take on the Wicked Witch Trail on the 30th and 31st of October. The Wicked Witch Trail is a 45-minute guided Halloween event in the Cladagh Glen Cottage Loop walk beside the caves visitor centre. Expect to see scary Halloween characters, and enjoy a host of activities as part of the event, partly outdoors and under roofed areas. This spooky trail will run both days from 10am until 3:15pm every 15 minutes, max 12 people per session. All kids must be accompanied by an adult. Prebooking necessary here.

Koolkids Playcentre

Koolkids play centre just outside Cavan town in the perfect spot for some midterm madness for the kids. The centre boasts an amazing 10,000 square foot facility including a 24foot rock climbing wall, a 3 lane slide, air guns, soccer pitch and much more. The centre will host a Halloween camp this midterm and there will be plenty of fun and games to keep the kids entertained. Erica’s Fairy Forest

Erica’s Fairy Forest is open daily and is free! The forest is located at Halton’s amenity just outside Cootehill and is the perfect family day out this midterm. The Forest is full of fairies, one in every tree, along with the woodland creatures, it’s the happiest place to be!
