Virginia is a picturesque town, on the banks of Lough Ramor. The town boasts a choice of accommodation– Richard Corrigan’s, Virginia Park Lodge, the Lakeside Manor Hotel, St. Kyran’s Country House Hotel, a number of guesthouses and self-catering properties, and Lough Ramor Caravan and Camping Park. The town has several restaurants, cafes and gastropubs, a 9-hole golf course, beautiful woodland walks in nearby Deerpark Forest, a marina, lakeside amenity area and the Ramor Theatre.Â
The town is 10km from one of Cavan’s most popular visitor attractions – Cavan County Museum and the World War 1 Trench Experience. Other nearby attractions include Crafts of Ireland and Carraig Gardens, both located within a short driving distance from the town. St. Kilian’s Heritage Centre in Mullagh is 11km away and Lough Crew Cairns and Newgrange are within driving distance. Virginia Agricultural Show takes place in mid-August every year and is one of the biggest shows in Ireland.
Four miles north of the town is Killinkere, the reputed birthplace of American Civil War general, Philip Sheridan. The Killinkere Whit Jamboree takes place in the splendid grounds of Killinkere Leisure Centre over the Whit (June) Bank Holiday weekend. Lough Ramor is the biggest lake in the area at 800 hectares and is regarded as a good coarse and pike fishing destination. Ramor Watersports Club operate a marina at the Lakeside Manor.
