BALLYHAISE TRAILS
Start your walk at Ballyhaise Amenity Park, on the R212 (opposite Ballyhaise Agricultural College). This is the trailhead for two beautiful trails around the village and surrounding countryside. The Annalee River Walk (yellow loop) and historic Oakwood Forest Walk (green loop).
1. Annalee River Trail
Terrain Mostly flat, river shore path, minor roads and public footpaths.
Distance 2.8km
Grade Easy
Time 30 – 45 mins
From here, carefully cross the road and turn right, keeping Ballyhaise House on your left. At the bridge, follow the yellow markers through the marked gap in the wall and begin your walk along the River Annalee. After 1.5km you will emerge onto a minor road, turn left to return to the square in Ballyhaise Village or turn right for a longer walk through Oakwood Forest (following the green markers). Upon arriving in the village square, take a left and follow the footpath to the Amenity Park and trailhead.
2. Oakwood Forest Trail
Terrain River shore path, forest trail, minor roads.
Distance 5.3km
Grade Moderate
Time 80 – 90mins
Follow the path along the River Annalee, as described above. Upon emerging from the river path onto a minor road, turn right following the signs (green markers) for Oakwood Forest. Take a left into the forest and follow the markers uphill along the path, enjoying the peace and tranquillity of this ancient forest. You will emerge onto a minor road. Follow the road back into Ballyhaise, taking a left on the main road, past the village square, along the footpath until returning to the Amenity Park.
