1923 Hitler’s Breakthrough Year and its lessons for today

April 18 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Cavan Museum 1923

Our Annual Arthur Griffith Lecture will take place on Thursday April 18th at 7.30pm at Cavan County Museum.

At the start of 1923 Adolf Hilter was still on the fringes of German politics, but as Germany faced a spiral of domestic and international crises, his star rose.

By November, he thought that he was strong enough to seize power and destroy the Weimar Republic, the democratic system of government that had existed since the summer of 1919.

In the end, Hitler failed, the forces of democracy were strong enough to strike back.

In this talk historian and author Mark Jones takes us through the events of this tumultuous year, highlighting the interplay between national, international and local politics.
